The Menars Castle (map)

Menars is one of the beautiful Castles built along the river Loire and at present it is open to the public.

It was a property of the Sharron family from 1633 until 1760 when Madame de Pompadour acquired it.

She left the Castle to her brother, Abel François Poisson, who sold it in 1781.
Many of the original furniture and decorations are still visible.
