The Hotel of Réservoirs (map)

It was known as the Hotel Pompadour and it was placed in Rue Réservoirs n°7, in Versailles, just side the Castle.

The Marchioness charged Lassurance to build it in 1751 and it was there that she used to meet the Ambassadors privately. The place was connected to the Castle by a long corridor and had a garden with rare and precious plants. When Madame Pompadour died her body was moved from the Castle to the Hotel and stayed there for two days before the funeral.

After having had a lot of owners through the years, the building was definitely transformed into a Hotel-Restaurant.

At first the Hotel had only one floor but then in the XIX century (a period full of architectural disasters) was increased and four more floors were added. Let me say that this last redevelopment ruined a real masterpiece.

Over-doors painted by Rysbrak.
